Summer Top Hits…So Far

Even though the summer isn’t over, now seems a good time to check in. Rose hips and a tinge of fall color seep into the woods. Here in Maine, yellow school buses begin to drift through my neighborhood.

My summers are usually reserved for writing and other creative projects, outdoor adventures, and submission to a long list of books I want to read. This summer has been different. It feels like an intermission, a break in the regular summer rhythms that follow the usual Maine summer rituals. This is refreshing yet unsettling. Rituals have a way of organizing oneself, with deadlines and frameworks. This summer follows unexpected tangents, a reconsidering of ritual, detours, and sometimes complete divergence. 

One reason for this is that I decided to move on from my position at UT after 13 years. But more on that later, perhaps in the next newsletter.

For now, here are a few observations from this summer:
