Illusionary Evolutionary
A row of lightbulbs cosseted in golden clamshell fixtures lit up our faces as I awaited the beginning of a magic show in New York City this month. The show was a parlor magic show that had been developed by magician Dan White in the Nomad Hotel and was now appearing in Fotografiska. (The building was cited in the film “Anna” as one of her many real estate scams. Anna Sorokin, recently released from jail, would be amused to see that a Swedish photography museum now owns the building where illusions and slights of hand are on display.) The museum has a small performance space where I awaited Mr. White.
Mr. White is intense, with piercing eyes that focus on the magic at hand while also revealing a subtle wink that suggests he knows you may not be fooled.
